Dr Marlize Malan van Rooyen
PhD Educational Psychology; MEd Educational Psychology, BEd Hons Educational Psychology with specialisation in counselling, Postgraduate Certificate in Education, BSocSci Psychology
Marlize is passionate about helping young people flourish in their learning and development. She uses a resilience and well-being lens to identify and address academic and emotional barriers young people experience.
She has enjoyed various roles as an educational psychologist. She worked at the University of Pretoria, South Africa as part of the Educational Psychology Department for eight years. In this role she had the opportunity to teach, do research and be closely involved in the practical training and supervision of educational psychology students.
Marlize immigrated to New Zealand in 2019 and worked at the Ministry of Education for a few years.
She is passionate about helping young people flourish in their learning and development. She uses a resilience and well-being lens to identify and address academic and emotional barriers young people experience.
Marlize specialises in psycho-educational assessments. She can help identify what barriers are at play, including: learning disabilities, ADHD or emotional barriers like anxiety.
She also specialises in intervention planning that focuses both on addressing the barriers while being considered towards the young person’s resilience and well-being.
Marlize can also assist in providing assessments for gifted and twice exceptional students. It is her passion to see these students flourish and experience a good life balance. She further provides assessments for students who may need Special Assessment Conditions for exams and is able to provide guidelines for creating conducive study environments at home.
